Information Technology provides the computing, communications, and educational technology environment and services that supports education, research and administration at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar.
Chief Information Officer
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for defining and delivering information technology services that support instruction, research, and administration. The CIO works with faculty, staff, and students to understand their requirements and lead the IT department to deliver these services to the University. The CIO coordinates operations with the main campus in Pittsburgh to provide university-wide services that ensure a consistent student and faculty experience. The CIO also represents Carnegie Mellon University Qatar in external forums and in joint projects with other Education City universities and the Qatar Foundation.

IT Groups
Core Infrastructure and Services (CIS)
The CIS group handles the core infrastructure and services of IT that are used by the entire campus and serve as the backbone for the rest of IT systems and services. The group:
- Provides complete support for the core infrastructure and core services that underpin the entire computing, communications, and education and media technology services
- Provides complete support for the data center, networking, server hardware and Virtualization (server and desktop), databases, web, email, calendaring, and collaboration systems.
- Provides a complete set of core services that are used across the campus by all users while primarily focusing on the infrastructure component
- Provides partial support for the research computing needs of the University
- Provides partial support for business computing needs for the University including managing the web presence and custom software development for the University

Educational and Media Technologies (EMT)
The EMT group supports the teaching mission of the university. The group:
- Provides complete support for the teaching mission of the University
- Provides complete support for educational technology (including learning management system, learning/teaching aid software, classroom technologies, and audiovisual systems, distance learning support, multimedia systems and production)
- Provides complete support for software used in computer science, information systems, business, biology, and liberal arts syllabus (including development tools, computing infrastructure for teaching, business software, biology and computational biology software, architecture software, language learning software, statistical software; and also software on student laptops, computing clusters, classroom/podium systems, and instructor systems)
- Provides complete support for user facing services relating to desktop systems, mobile platforms, and the service desk
- Provides complete support for media technologies in the classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, digital signage system, and events.
- Provides technology solutions for the University’s delivery of comprehensive curriculum support needs
- Provides partial support for business computing needs for the University including managing the web presence and custom software development for the University
- Provides partial support for the research computing needs of the University
