Dear Faculty, Students and Staff,
A critical security vulnerability has been identified in the Internet Explorer (IE) browser (versions 7 through 11). This vulnerability can allow a remote attacker to run unauthorized applications and/or infect a user’s computer without any action required from the user other than browsing a site which has the exploit. Note that the site may not be complicit in delivering the exploit since it can be included in advertisements or other embedded objects. For more information see the relevant links below.
While we have pushed the update to our IT-managed PCs on campus, we advise all of our users to update Internet Explorer (IE) on their personal Windows computers. This update is available via Windows Update (or at http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6).
If you suspect that you have any issues related to this vulnerability, please contact the IT Service Desk at helpcenter@qatar.cmu.edu or 4454-8440 immediately.
